Safety in numbers

‘Safety in numbers’ is a common saying, and when it comes to vehicle safety the best number is five. Specifically, a 5 star ANCAP safety rating.

We’re thrilled to announce that ANCAP has awarded the GWM Cannon ute a 5 star ANCAP safety rating, meaning it now sits alongside two other 5 star utes in our stable – the Isuzu D-Max and the Mitsubishi Triton.

What is ANCAP?

The Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) provides Australian and New Zealand consumers with independent vehicle safety information through the publication of ANCAP safety ratings. ANCAP safety ratings take into account the level of both occupant and pedestrian protection provided by new cars through the conduct of physical crash tests and the assessment of collision avoidance technologies.

The more stars, the better the vehicle performed in ANCAP tests. To achieve the maximum 5 star ANCAP safety rating, a vehicle must feature advanced safety assist technologies and must achieve the highest standards in all tests. And of course the higher the safety rating, the more protected everyone is, both in and around the vehicle. Each year ANCAP raise the bar on their testing standards, meaning it’s a constantly improving program.

Safety in the workplace

Like any new vehicle buyer, ute buyers and those responsible for the people driving them, should be looking at the ANCAP rating as a critical factor in the buying process.

The Health and Safety at Work Act and related regulations are very clear. They require that workers and others are given the highest level of protection from workplace health and safety risks, so far as is reasonably practicable. In simple terms, your purchase may have an impact on your own safety and that of your staff, family, and others around the vehicle – so you should buy the safest vehicle you can.
