Winning a Hyundai Kona for two weeks was an exhilarating experience for the Underwood family who won the Brendan Foot Supersite Kick for a Kona competition at the Wellington Phoenix FC match in October.

Claire, Russell, Darcy and Scarlett faced the challenge of kicking footballs into the goals and in doing so kicked more goals than two other families during the half time Hyundai Kona promotion.

The experience of driving around in the Kona for two weeks has been an unexpected adventure for the Underwoods. We’ll let them explain…

Having the Hyundai Kona for two weeks has been like having an unexpected, attractive and exhilarating guest in our midst. A rather tentative start while we got to know our new companion (What’s this button for? How do you possibly start a car without an ignition key?) has quickly blossomed into a close friendship.

This is a small SUV that packs a punch. We took an immediate liking to its comfortable interior and smooth drive. It’s equally at home on the open road and on the daily nose-to-tail commute into Wellington.

For Claire, it’s the numerous safety features and the vice-like grip on the road that have been stand outs.

For Russ it’s the overall driving experience – the Kona is packed with features, including a very cool ‘heads up display’, all designed to make the driver’s life easier – but this is still a car that wants to be driven, and makes you want to drive it.

For Darcy, 14, and Scarlett, 13, there is no contest when it comes to identifying the best feature – the heated seats! Even in the mild late Spring weather, these two have been unable to resist cranking up the heated seats, and thinking what a boon that would be on a cold winter’s morning.

We will be sad to hand the Kona back after two weeks. We’ve become very attached to it, and of course it’s a reminder of the time we got to ‘Kick for a Kona’ at the Westpac Stadium in front of over 7,000 fans thanks to Brendan Foot Supersite and Hyundai.

An exhilarating experience – just like driving the Kona.
